Be an innovator, not an imitator. - Audrey Carballo
Many say that the greatest compliment you can receive from someone is for them to copy or duplicate your idea. Yeah, right! That may be true, but let’s get real...The reality is that it feels like a double edged sword. On one side you feel the confirmation that your idea was good; otherwise, no one would duplicate it. But on the other hand, it means your idea is being taken, and in business this may result in competition and having the original concept diluted. Welcome to the wonderful world of free enterprise where all things are possible ….or not.
When you find something that works, everyone wants to jump on board. Before you know it, your idea or concept is showing up everywhere. Your first reaction is WOW this is awesome; it’s catching on and it is really working. But before you know it, five other businesses are promoting the same idea ....and maybe doing it even better. However, if you are an innovator, you will always find new and unique ways to keep your edge. That’s the challenge that drives true innovators; they are always trying to perfect their ideas or concepts, and taking them to the next level.
Sometimes those who are not as innovative wonder if it is bad to imitate or copy. The answer is yes and no. Like anything, it’s more about how you go about coping or duplicating. Not everyone can be an innovator but we can all chose to be ethical. At the end of the day we, as individuals, have to live with our own decisions in this competitive world.
Work hard, be productive, and above all else stay positive.
